Chocolate Whole Wheat Waffles Recipe

These whole wheat waffles are delicious treat for breakfast, brunch or bressert!


  • 1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/3 cup butter
  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • 1/4 cup dark cocoa powder
  • 1 large egg, lightly beaten


  1. In a large bowl whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, cinnamon and sugar.
  2. In a small saucepan over low heat, melt the butter. Whisk in the cocoa powder until smooth. Whisk in milk and allow to warm slightly.
  3. Stir melted butter/chocolate/milk mixture into the flour mixture. Stir in beaten egg until just combined. The batter will be a bit lumpy.
  4. Heat waffle iron and cook waffles according to waffle iron instructions.
