Irish Coffee is a warm cocktail any Leprechaun (or human) of legal drinking age would love to cozy up with. Enjoy this cocktail after dinner with a few sweet treats. It would also be perfect with a festive brunch this Saint Patrick’s Day, or any holiday for that matter!
What is Irish Coffee, you ask? Is it green? Does it taste like Guinness? Nope. Irish Coffee is warm and cozy cocktail made with coffee and your favorite Irish Whiskey. More specifically, it is a slightly sweetened black coffee with a splash of whiskey topped with fresh whipped cream, which makes Irish Coffee the perfect after dinner beverage to enjoy with dessert. Perhaps a mug or two après ski? Not to mention a few for a nice holiday brunch. However, you don’t have to be Irish to cozy up to a cup of this warm cocktail.
Furthermore, Irish Coffee is simple enough to make and even easier to drink (if you are legal drinking age, of course). When preparing this warm cocktail, the idea is to carefully float the heavy cream (or fresh whipped cream) on top of the hot coffee. Then, you can sip the coffee through the cream. Additionally, whipped cream is super simple to make and makes all the difference in this cocktail, along with various desserts and your various sweet treat toppings. Also, you can quickly whip the cream a day ahead of time and a add a little vanilla or cinnamon to be ready.
This classic Irish Coffee cocktail is a delicious and an excellent beverage to enjoy with a simple dessert like pound cake, buttery shortbread, or coffee cake, just to name a few.

How I wish we were sitting in your kitchen drinking this Irish Coffee together with just a wee bit of whiskey…we could do a lot of sipping through that cream together…You make the coffee, I’ll bring the shortbread.
I love spiked coffees 🙂 Thanks for the recipe!
My college boyf’ used to make this on late study nights using 1 sugar cube in the bottom of the mug, adding the hot coffee, then the whiskey, over the cube followed by a quick stir and a schpritz of canned whipped cream – et voila! Thanks for this reminder, I’m off to check the cabinet for a dabble of whiskey!
