Fun Food and Fruit Carving

There were a variety of food and fruit carving displays to discover on a recent cruise.

Recently I was invited by Princess Cruises to experience a Caribbean cruise on the Caribbean Princess. My sister joined me for the adventure. It was fun exploring the ship. One of the highlights we enjoyed daily were the carved food displays. Whether right on our plate alongside a dessert, or at the coffee bar, or on a buffet, gorgeous carved food was everywhere. I thought I’d share a few of the carvings I was able to snap pictures of. There were so many more that I wish I could have photographed for you. It was intriguing to see how the food sculptors transformed an array of fruit, vegetables and other foods into something incredible. It certainly makes me look at my food a little differently. I may surprise the family sometime with a display. Who knows? My craftiness may bust out the next time I have a watermelon and a melon baller at my fingertips.

They did have a demonstration one day on board, but I was only able to catch the very last minute or so. Food sculpting would be a fun class to take, wouldn’t it? Or maybe it would be easier to find some online videos and learn right at home? That would be a great ladies night in party idea to plan before the holidays so you can be prepared to carve all kinds of wonderful adornments for your holiday table spread. Perhaps a turkey out of a squash? My mind is spinning with ideas.
