Visit any kitchen store and you can find an overwhelming assortment of pots, pans and paraphernalia. Usually amongst the mix, you’ll find a few gems, a few necessary items that no kitchen should do without. One of which is a good Dutch Oven.
A Dutch Oven is a heavy-duty pot with a tight fitting lid usually made of cast iron or ceramic. They conduct heat evenly and can be used in the oven or stovetop. Dutch Ovens are perfect for stewing, roasting, and braising. We regularly use one for roasting chicken, braising pork, or for savory beef roasts, just to name a few. It’s a workhorse in the kitchen that I’d surely miss if it ever ran away.Do you own a Dutch Oven or two? If not, now is your chance because I’m giving away a Lodge 6-Quart Enameled Cast Iron Dutch Oven in Island Spice Red to one winner. Woo hoo!

The possibilities are endless! So many ideas to try. The first food I would cook in this beautiful Dutch Oven would be my ‘killer’ slow-cooked baked beans!
A Dutch oven has been on my wishlist for over 11 years! There are so many recipes I have in a binder needing this pot…exotic, gorgeous recipes…but I would start with something deliciously French from Julia Child, of course.

To help usher in the smells and colors of fall, I would use this beautiful Dutch oven to create a round, or domed, bread, specifically a dried cherry and hazelnut (yeast) bread.
