Imagine Cinnamon Honey Butter in frosting form. Yes! That is this! You can whip up this delicious Cinnamon Honey Buttercream Frosting Recipe in no time to finish off your special cakes or cookies with hints of cinnamon buttery goodness.
A few weeks ago I had the privilege of attending the Southern Baking Retreat in Nashville, hosted by White Lily and Martha White. One of the days we were there we were partnered up and given he challenge to create a baked good to compliment a country song out of list of choices. My partner and I chose Blake Shelton’s song “Honey Bee.” A cute song that deserved a cute sweet treat, and boy, did we deliver. We decided on a cupcake with a base layer of chocolate combined with a layer of sweet potato cake, then topped with a Cinnamon Honey Buttercream and an itty bitty peanut butter bee. It was cuteness overload! While my teammate formed the perfect little bees with peanut butter bodies, melted chocolate stripes and almond wings, I whipped up a delectable Cinnamon Honey Buttercream until it was as light and fluffy as a cloud. Because, after all, a bee needs a soft place to sit. Not only was it cute, it was scrumptious! I wish I had a good picture of the finished product to share.
Once home, I recreated this Cinnamon Honey Buttercream Frosting Recipe for use with our favorite spiced cakes, like Carrot Cake and Sweet Potato Cake. It’s a terrific pairing for them or any other baked treats that include warm spices like cinnamon and ginger. It will definitely be making a regular appearance during the holidays for those special occasion cakes.

This is such an inspiring idea for frosting and how perfect to have this on hand over the holidays!
I get so excited for recipes that I can use for lots of recipes, here specifically, lots of cakes so I don’t have to worry about making something once and just being done with it. Versatile is key for me in my old age. Thanks for sharing. I love frosting, but only good frosting, not grocery store (icky) frosting.
I agree, Laura. And this buttercream is a good choice for just about any cake, chocolate even! Enjoy!
mm I bet that frosting would be good on any cake… or straight from the bowl haha.
You’re so right, Angie!
That frosting looks glorious!!!
Thank you, Bridget. It’s good on anything, like a spoon! 😉
What are the nutrition facts of this frosting?
Hi Amy! I made the cake and icing yesterday. The icing tasted a tad salty. Do you have to use the salt when making the icing? I used the above recommended amount and followed the instructions.
No, you can adjust the salt to your taste, Brandon.
Does this frosting need to be refrigerated?
No. You may refrigerate it, but you will need to let it get to room temperature before using it.
I’m wondering if a block of cream cheese added to the frosting would work out the same. I like cream cheese icing on spice cakes.
I was thinking the same thing!! I’m going to experiment with a tried and true whipped cream cheese frosting recipe, with these additions.. I’ll report how it turns out!
One of my friends has made a cream cheese version and loved it!
Awesome! I just made some with the additions from this version, and it tastes so amazing! Thanks for sharing this!
Please give directions (prep of paper liners for tins, cooking time, etc.) making cupcakes with the cake batter. Thanks.
can i put fondant on it? .. thank you
Can I cut down to 2 sticks of butter. Some thought it tasted to buttery
Can I use salted butter and eliminate the salt in the ingredients?
Sure!
Made the sweet potato cake and cinnamon honey buttercream frosting. I love the frosting! Licking the bowl. Waiting for Christmas to try the cake! Thank you! Merry Christmas!
Excellent! The first buttercream I’ve successfully made. Thank you for posting!
I mead the sweet potato cake with this frosting last week for my book club ladies. We all loved it.
My 25 year old son shared the recipe with me as it is one of his favorites!
Thank you so much!
I’m so happy everyone enjoyed it, Kelly. Cake + book club sounds like fun!
Too much sugar for my taste. I would reduce it up to 1/3 of all !!!!!!!!! I will try next time ~ but thank you for the recepie
Loved this cake and frosting!! The 3/4 teaspoon seemed like too much and so I used less. It was still a bit salty, in my opinion.
