The Retreat Remodel No. 4 – Kitchen Lighting

Our kitchen remodel is still underway. Much has been done, but there’s still much more to do, like hang open shelving, trim out cabinets, refinish floors, but we have lights! Since we’re functioning in our kitchen during the remodel, lights are kind of important. It may be a while until the final reveal, so I wanted to go ahead and share about our fun new lights now, just in case anyone still needs to add something special to that Christmas list, if you know what I mean. Nothing better than beginning a new year with super cool lights, huh?
The lights we chose are from Barn Light Electric, a US company located in Florida. I was originally introduced to Barn Light Electric by my friend Sommer, when I saw that she used them in her kitchen remodel last year. I contacted Betty from Barn Light Electric about working with them on our remodeling project. She’s been so very wonderful to work with—very helpful (and patient) with my indecisiveness. With such a great selection of lights, and so many colors, it’s not so easy to narrow it down. I’m thankful for Betty holding my hand.
Two Ivanhoe™ Sinclair Porcelain Pendants in jadite with putty cords (cords!) were selected for over the island, and a Goodrich™ Sinclair Porcelain Gooseneck Light for over the sink. They are so cool! Even though I’m such a fan of green—especially jadite green—I was worried about picking a color other than white, because I’m boring like that. But with all the woodsy wood that will be throughout the home, coupled with lighter walls and cabinets, I’m planning on pops of color to contrast the warmth. And these jadite lights couldn’t be more perfect for pops of color! Everyone who has seen them so far has complimented the style and color. I’m so happy with the decision.
Not only has Betty been super to work with, I quickly became a fan of the Barn Light Electric company after learning about their story. Barn Light Electric is an American company, run by real, down-to-earth people, with unique talent and vision. I do love creative artisans. I think you’ll see what I mean, if you visit the Barn Light Electric site to see the video about their company story.
I’d sure love to visit the shop one day and see the lights made in person. What a neat field trip it would make, don’t ya think?
Barn Light Electric not only offers a fine selection of kitchen lighting and other indoor and outdoor lighting, but they are now making these Porcelain Enamel Dinnerware too. I’ll be personally adding some of the nesting bowls to my wish list. So charming!
Do tell your friends that are in the market for lights (or bowls!) to mosey on over to the Barn Light Electric website and see what treasures are to be had.
I’m looking forward to sharing with you the end results of our kitchen remodel, and show you how the lights fit right in with the whole design. Until then, I’m back to nailing, sanding, painting …
xoxo

Oh my goodness your kitchen is looking so cute! These lights are going on my wish list for sure, not to mention those cute bowls. xoxo
Do you remember what size your shades are? 10″ or larger? It’s so hard to judge the lights in isolation on the website and I’m curious what size you selected for your space. Thank you! BEAUTIFUL kitchen by the way.
Hello Rita,
It is very difficult to judge size. We chose the 10″ shade. I hope that helps ya!
love your kitchen! found your site while searching for these lights! they look so great in your kitchen! i was leaning toward white, but after seeing the jadite in your space, I think I might go for the pop of color too! all the best to you with your retreat!
Hello Kristi!
I was a little scared to go with anything other than white, but everyone that’s has seen them so far has commented on the color! They do add that little bit of something special. Go for it!
I just stumbled upon your site yesterday and am totally hooked. I’m especially interested in your remodel. We live in DC but our daughter lives in Asheville and is insistent that we move down there and quit the rat race. I’d love to know if your retreat is anywhere near there? We’re familiar with the city, but not so much the surrounding area. Coming from an urban area would be a major adjustment in itself, so we’re looking for any and all guidance available.
LOVE what you’re doing and will continue to follow!
Thanks for any info in advance.
It’s a lovely area! And still an urban feel without being overwhelming. Our remodeling project is out in the Brevard area. We love it!
Looking for a dining room light for our refurbishment and want something to go with the Old Schoolhouse Light that I got for the kitchen which we are in the process of refurbishing (somehow our project grew to include the dining room when the dust from sanding the cabinets turned 1/2 the dining room wall brown!). I just found Barnhouse Electric last week online and appreciate your naming Betty as someone good to talk to and guide us. The light I’ve found of theirs I like is way too expensive so I need to figure out something cheaper that will fit in our space . Like yours and like what you did around it. Hadn’t thought of that–we have an old flushmount feature that is boring and I want to change it but–but the base is much bigger than most of the smaller current lights. Thanks for the help.
