Sloppy Joes are nothing fancy, but they sure are the perfect food for hungry teenagers.
My son is at that phase in teenage-dom where he regularly has friends stop by for a visit. They’re a great bunch! I love them like my own—each and every one. It may not be mealtime when they stop by, and nobody says anything about food, but we know. Growing boys gotta eat, and eat, and eat. Sloppy Joes were the answer one day last week. Warm, handheld and easy to make, Sloppy Joes were the perfect crowd pleaser.
For future hungry teenagers that may wander by, I’m planning on making a large batch of Sloppy Joes to divide up into smaller amounts to freeze so it can be easily popped into a skillet and quickly warmed up. Buns can be kept in the freezer too for a quick impromptu meal. It takes no time to warm up a frozen bun in a toaster or warm oven. So easy and so satisfying for those growing young men (and ladies too).

Looks delicious, Amy. I’d love these! Believe it or not, my guys have never been big fans of Sloppy Joes. Isn’t that wild?!
My husband and daughter, sadly, are not fans of sloppy joes, either, but maybe a homemade version will be better. (Yes, I cheat and use a canned mix.)
I’m making this right now and it looks too liquidy. I should have added less tomato sauce.
