Generally I don’t consider myself a vain person. I suppose none of us do though.
Except for the hair. Last spring I began losing lots of hair, all of a sudden. Lots. Whether due to hormones, chemicals in the water, styling, or a combination of all the above, I’ll never know. What I do know is that I was freaking out.
A bunch.
I have much more understanding and compassion for women who experience hair loss. I can’t even imagine. Mine was temporary, and only slight compared to those ladies going through chemotherapy or other, more permanent hair loss situations. Sending out much love to those ladies.
Like I said, mine is doing much better now. Thank goodness it began growing back, creating whole sections of short hairs all over that I’d have to conceal in one way or another. But, again, thankfully, it’s growing back. I figure I’ve got about six more months for it to be back to a more normal state.
Since the hair loss first began, I’ve tried all kinds of hair products, vitamins, and other treatments to help, but the biggest change has been from using a line of hair care products recommended by a very well known blogging friend. I won’t drop names, but let’s just say she has lovely hair.
She mentioned that getting a whole house water filter helped a ton, and then told me about Kerastase hair products, warning me of how pricey they were. We’re looking into the water filter, but in the meantime, I immediately began researching about Kerastase. It is pricey, but after reading tons of wonderful reviews I placed an order and waited daily for it to arrive.
Let me say that I don’t tend to place a lot of confidence in cosmetics in general. As far as makeup goes, if I can’t find it at the drug store, or Tarjay, I probably don’t own it or have never heard of it. I think most products are full of hype, and backed with mega advertising dollars. And have been quite pleased many a time with $5 lipstick.
But this Kersatse… I don’t know what’s in it, but whatever it is, it’s good stuff. I immediately felt a change in my hair. After using it now for over a month, I’ve seen a gradual change in the texture and strength of my hair. And I want to tell everyone I know about it.
Yes, it was a pretty penny. And yes, I’ve found it’s worth every pretty penny, because for me it works. Works mighty fine indeed. And it smells so loverly. My husband and my son tell me quite often, how nice my hair smells.
FYI – I’ve been using the Kerastase Resistance Bain Age Recharge Lipo Replenishing Shampoo, the Masque Age Recharge, and the Resistance Volumactive Volume Expansion Spray. I use the Masque Age Recharge as a daily conditioner for a couple of minutes, and once or twice a week as the full 5 minutes masque.
Have any new beauty product to rave about? Do share.
(And no, Kerastase didn’t pay me to say these things or even send me a free bottle of shampoo, although that would be excellent.)
🙂
I’m so sorry to hear about the sudden hair loss. I had that happen to me as my PCOS got worse and I had some surgery, and it was pretty devastating at first. I’m glad you found a product that works for you. The hair conditioner that has made a huge difference for me is the new Dove Intense Damage Defense Daily Treatment Conditioner. I actually received it as a freebie through BzzAgent, and it changed my hair completely. Even my husband, who never did more than shampoo and rinse, started using it at my suggestion, and now he gets a little pissy about his hair if we run out. If the Dove stops giving me the results I’ve had so far, I’m definitely checking this Kerastase stuff out.
I’m off to figure out how much a pretty penny is… 😉
On my list to try very soon – my hair could use all the help it can get!
I’m a Kerastase girl too! I’ve been using it for years, both the Age Recharge and Oleo Relax lines. Oleo Relax is great for us with “ethnic hair” (iow, unruly and rebellious).
Sounds enticing! My hair has changed so dramatically since I ‘ve had kids so this sounds so excellent! Thanks Amy!
I had no idea! You always look so beautiful to me… maybe thats cause you glow from within girl. 🙂
I really like Tiger Protein Reconstructor by Prodesign…great for keeping color-treated hair in good condition. And ya’ll, I was sitting behind Amy in church last week thinking to myself, “Her hair looks FABULOUS!” Now I know her secret! 🙂
Hair is my thing too. I hate having a bad hair day. After both of my babies I lost a ton of hair. To the point that it looked like I had a receding hairline by the temples of my head. Not a pretty site. Right now I am using Fekkai Glossing Shampoo (picked up a set at Costco) and I love it. Hair looks and feels smooth without being weighed down which says a lot because I have fine hair. It smells really good too!
Sounds like great stuff!
I suddenly lost a ton of hair right before I was diagnosed as being hypothyroid. (A simple bloodtest confirmed it, and a tiny pill each morning resolved the hair loss and all my other symptoms! YAY!)
I wish I’d had this Kerastase back then. I have very curly hair and it took so long for my hair to come back even remotely as thick as it had been before the thyroid issues.
I’m in love with Fredrick Fekkai. I’ve professed my love on several occasions – even on my blog. There’s good stuff in that bottle. BUT… he does need a healthy little ole boost every once in a while I guess. They say you shouldn’t continuously use the same shampoo without switching out every once in a while. This sounds like my go to to keep him on his toes.
I’m so sorry about your hair loss…however I’m very glad you’ve found a great product that works for you! I have hypothyroidism, so my hair tends to be very thin…perhaps this would help out in that area as well.
I’ve asked my husband several times over the past few months if he thinks my hair is getting thinner. Because I really do believe there’s not as much there! This sounds like a product to look into.
This looks great! Lately my hair has been feeling dry and crunchy (no other way to describe it?)… I’ll have to give this a try!
Right now I’m completely obsessed with the Laura Mercier Silk Creme Foundation that I got at Sephora a few weeks ago… It blends perfectly, covers well, and doesn’t make my skin go crazy!
I’m sorry about your hair loss (I’m usually like a shedding cat in the summer!) but I’m glad you’ve found solutions to help you. I’m a Kerastase girl, too. I recently bought the Bain Chroma Riche for my color-treated hair, but it was too moisturizing for daily use, so I alternate it with Pureology (my other shampoo favorite). Ok, I could go on and on…I am a product junkie. 🙂
Love Kerastase. My hair dresser who is also a friend gave me some when my hair started growing back after chemo 🙂
Just found your site through TidyMom.
I’ve been thinking a whole house water filter would be better than a water softener.
Did your friend mention the best water filter to purchase??
