I want to travel.

In the grand scheme of things I realize travel isn’t of great importance, but I can’t hep’ it. I wanna go places. I want to stand on a distant shore, feel the wind in my hair and know, for that moment, the redneck within is tucked, far, far away… and I’m an international traveler… a woman of excitement… adventure… intrigue!
Of course that would last about all of a minute until I open my mouth to ask “Hey y’all! Where’s the local Starbucks?”
And the fact that I hate to fly posts a bit of a problem.
We can dream.
We can dream and watch the travel channel.
Does anyone remember those scenes from “The Man from Snowy River” that show the wide open range? I mean, doesn’t that just make you wanna strap on a pair of chaps, hop on the next plane to “down under” and hug a koala? Anyone?
Koalas or not, sometimes you just have to get away. A change of scenery is good for the soul.
And you don’t always have to go far. A day trip or a local eatery that you’ve never checked out can
often do the trick.
With that said, we haven’t been many places. There are a few favorite vacation spots, that I can’t wait to share with you, and many local/regional jaunts that we escape to often.
Of course most any where in Europe would be at the top of my list of places to see.
So, answer this…
Where would you go at the drop of a hat? What would you do when you get there?
Wherever it is, get out there! See the world! Even if it’s only down the street. You’ll be glad you did.
I’d go to Italy at the drop of a hat and head straight to one of those charming sidewalk cafes you see in the movies. What fun that would be!
I’d love to go lighthouse hopping up the east coast and stay in one in New England that lets you “man (woman) the light”. Then I could add Lighthouse Keeper to my list of experiences.
It is amazing to me that ships crossing the ocean used (and some still do) these lights to navigate by. Can you imagine being out in the middle of the ocean and coming over the horizon to find a blinking light that tells you you have made it to the right harbor? What a feeling! “Land Ho!”
I hear Mongolia is nice this time of year.
Bekah is visiting her aunt in New Hampshire this week. They didn’t have to drive far to see the beach, then the mountains. temp is mid 70’s….nice!
I would like to go to Ohio and board the Delta Queen paddle boat and float all the way to New Orleans and then back. I’m sure there would be lots of farming for Pa to drool and tell me what he would have done differently! Besides, I don’t think the water is very deep and we could float away if boat crashes. What a thought – all of this!!!
Let’s go Nanny! We can start planning now for next summer.
I can tell you where not to go. Don’t go to Riviera Maya in Mexico. Scary. It has ended up being the vacation that kept on giving. We had a great time doing nothing and hanging out however, there are other places to go besides there.
Tyla,
Oooh. Yuck. Good to know.
I know someone planning to go Riviera Maya in Spetmber. I want to know more. Was it unsafe or unclean? The word scary concerns me!
At the drop of a hat I would go to Italy. When I got there, aside from enjoying the beautiful scenery, I would eat like there was no tomorrow!
Debbie,
Me too!
I just think it would be awesome to rent an RV and go across country with my husband and children. We could turn around and come home after Mt. Rushmore but still would love to go as far as the Redwood Forest. Been to the Grand Canyon, Grand Tetons, as a child but would love to go again with my children, …it would be so cool!
Right now I’d go to Ireland, its so gorgeous there and I’ve been there but my fiance was not.
Perhaps Vietnam but I’m not sure what the weather is like right now.
I’m going to New Zealand in Jan, shall I get you a trinket?
Dandy,
So jealous. That’s a cool place.
Amy
At the drop of hat I guess I could go to where you just described in Australia, oh wait, I’m already there!
Hmm, I lever a link in that last comment but it doesn’t show up (even though it works, just click where it way “I’m already there”)
I’ve always thought France would be great, but you make Venice sound pretty darn appealing! Maybe you could work for their tourist board to pay for your month with the locals?
I would go back to Alberta, Canada and since money is not an object (in my dreams) then I would stay at the Fairmont Lake Louise. Banff, Canada is probably the most gorgeous place on earth! Then, I would head down to Glacier National Park in Montana then keep heading south to Jackson Hole, Wyoming. If I wanted to make my sweetheart happy we’d head up to Bar Harbor, Maine – either would be fine with me. 🙂
This is what I’m saving for right now…I want to fly the whole family out to the west coast. Go to Monterey where Michael was born. Show them the Monterey Aquarium – the best! Eat some fresh seafood at Phil’s Fish Market. Rent an RV and drive back across country- hitting the highlights along the way. I’ve heard those RV’s only get a few miles to the gallon – so all donations welcomed!
I’ve always said that I’d love to “eat my way through Italy” and to combine that with a cruise of the Grecian isles would be amazing. Oh well, a girl can dream, can’t she?
Just last night, I was telling my husband that we should plan a trip next year to Argentina. I have a friend who went there, and said the trip there was daunting, but once you’re in the country you can live like a king for $100. He said it was gorgeous, and has been many times.
Hello, I’m a new visitor of your blog and I’m french. I live in Toulon, in the south of France, between Marseille and Nice.
And me … I would like to go to States and Canada …
My dream is, when we’ll be old, with my husband, to rent a campingcar and to visit all your wonderful country (and Canada, too), without feeling the pressure of a watch. Just taking our time, discovering… Aaaaaahhh…
But, there’s a huge problem, unfortunatly … I’m TERRIBLY SCARED about planes … !!! I took it once, to go to Ireland and I gave my fear to all the others passengers !! At the arrival, I have almost kissed the pilot !!… No… I really don’t know how I will do to make my dream come true 😉
The Caribbean! I would stick my toes in the sand and swim in the beautiful blue ocean!
Paris (always). Morocco. Timbuktu. Scandinavia. Big Sur. Nova Scotia. South India.
