Fresh honey is such a treat to have on hand to add to tea, yogurt, and delicious recipes like this Honey Mustard Salad Dressing.
I remember a couple of years ago as we harvested our first batch of honey, or shall I say Randy harvested it while I watched and planned on how to use the harvest. That first year of beekeeping was productive. It was like striking precious gold right in our backyard! Since that first year, the honey yield hasn’t been quite as good. I’ve kept one bottle from that first year hidden away likes it’s a treasure. Pure honey really is a treasure. Nothing else quite compares to what flavor honey adds to a recipe.
Honey is the perfect ingredient to keep stocked for creating sauces, dressings, and marinades as it pairs so well with many other ingredients, and flavor profiles. This very basic Honey Mustard Salad Dressing is my new go-to for a quick zesty salad companion. It’s light (about 40 calories/tablespoon), and since it’s made with only three simple ingredients, it sure is easy to whip up.
Toss this dressing with your favorite salad green and top with grilled chicken for a healthy and satisfying meal.
The dressing is on the spicy, zesty side, so not much is needed to add flavor. Adjust to your personal taste as needed. A little goes a long way so there’s no need to drown your salad with this one. Enjoy!

Hi there. Food on Friday: Mustard on Carole’s Chatter is now open for entries. This looks like a good recipe using mustard! I do hope you link it in. This is the link . Please do pop back to check out some of the other links. Have a great week.
Questions for site: You have bees, do you filter your honey before using it? Raw honey is white in color. Can I use raw honey in this recipe? Thanks
Hey Rose!
Yes we have bees. And yes, we do filter our honey using basic mesh filter that the honey drips through to get most of the big stuff out. We don’t pasteurize it though. Raw honey that has not been heated (pasteurized) and unfiltered, leaving bits of pollen, honeycomb and other particles in it the will begin to granulate and form crystals making it more white in appearance. When ours has done this we have had to stir it quite a bit, or let it warm by sitting in a sunny window or warm spot in order for it to “loosen up” to be able incorporate it into a recipe or use it to spread. I think as long as you can stir it and whisk it well with the other ingredients (the acid of the lemon juice should help that a bit) it should work. Although, the final honey mustard dressing may have an overall more gritty texture than filtered honey would have.
I hope that helps!
Amy
Thank you very much. I do love honey mustard dressing.
3 ingredients! Are you serious?! That’s amazing!! My dad is a huge honey mustard fan! I can’t wait to make this much healthier and less processed version for him:)
I’ve recently discovered that I have gluten, dairy, soy and possibly corn sensitivities, which means that I can’t even have some of my favorite homemade salad dressings, so I was VERY happy to come across your recipe for pretty much my ultimate favorite dressing. Made my day. 🙂 I’ve already made it, tried it and loved it. Thank you!!
Made this today to serve over a pecan, apple and spinach salad. Delicious !
Question – about how much liquid volume does this recipe make, and, if kept refridgerated, how long should it stay fresh?
Thanks!
– Johnson
About 2/3 cup, and it should keep fresh about 2 weeks covered and refrigerated, depending on the expiration date of the dijon mustard, of course.
I just came home from the store with all sorts of salad items except dressing. I thought to myself, I wish I knew a good recipe for dressing and bam! I can’t wait to try this.
I hope you enjoy it! It’s a bit different than store bought that my kids enjoy, but I do like it better.
A staple in my fridge although I use whole grain mustard; I’m sort of addicted to it (or maybe it’s because I make my own and ALWAYS have it on hand?). My youngest daughter is a creamy dressing fanatic; what I love about honey mustard is that all I have to do is add a dab of mayonnaise to the honey mustard dressing I love and she’s a happy camper too.
I so wanted to get bees at one time but that time passed yet still I love the sound of it. Maybe it’s because I don’t have a guy to harvest it? I’m not as afraid of them as I was as a girl but I prefer keeping my distance!
Beekeeping has been fun, Barbara. You may really enjoy it! It’s weird, but it’s very calming being around the bees. Maybe because you need to be calm if you don’t want them to mess with you. 😉
Okay, sounds delicious, so very simple…what’s not to love about this?! 🙂
