Yesterday we stopped by Hominy Grill in Charleston, SC for a late lunch. The food was fabulous – Southern comfort food with a captial “C.” What really got our attention though was the starter/appetizer we ordered, Okra & Shrimp Beignets with Salsa & Cilantro-Lime Sour Cream.
Savory deep fried nuggets of goodness.
Shrimp and okra have always complimented one another in gumbos and stews, and this was no exception. And the creamy, zesty sauce topped it off with perfection. No joke. We actually placed a second order for more – they were that yum.
Look the last lone beignet.
Don’t worry, it wasn’t alone for long.
These beignets have me rethinking my garden plan of cutting back on the amount of okra planted. Funny how the summer heat seems to drain my brain and creativity when faced with an overabundance of certain produce. I can’t wait now for that first batch of okra.
Now if I can only figure out how to grow shrimp.
Do you have a favorite starter or appetizer from a restaurant? Please share what and where.
Oh, delicious girlfriend! Wish I was there to share a meal with you.
Hope you had a wonderful Easter!
Glad you enjoyed your meal. Looks like a great place to dine!
Beyond beautiful. Can only imagine how good they taste!!
I LOVE Hominy Grill! the big nasty is by far the best meal they serve
I have never eaten anything like that and it looks delicious!
The only favorite starter I have is a special salad at a particular restuarant.
Sad, huh? LOL
I’ve never heard of shrimp farms in the backyard. How cook would THAT be though!
I had the most pleasant surprise while my older daughter was visiting the other week. We popped into the local FATZ to grab a quick bite while on a shopping spree. She said they had great Fried Green Tomatoes and Grits. I had my doubts but she was right! Yummy! The grits were stone ground and very tasty and the light breading on the tomatoes had corn meal in it and the combination of the two was oh so good. That and a glass of sweet tea made the perfect lunch on a warm spring day.
cbp you are right about Fatz! Those are good! But my favorite has to be the Sizzling Scallops Appetizer at Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse. We are regulars here and this appetizer is SOOOOO good. There are only 2 scallops on the plate BUT they are HUGE!!
Oh, my word! Those beignets should absolutely delicious. Did you get the recipe? We’re going over to the coast for Memorial Day and I’ve already put Hominy Grill on our list of places to visit!
Ummm…”sound” delicious even. Duh.
Delicious! Counting down myself to okra picking day 🙂 I love the Sesame Fried Calamari with a sweetened sake, pineapple – soy sauce @ Jerry’s Food Wine & Spirits in Wrightsville Beach, NC. Come up and get some anytime, my treat.
It looks delicious. I’ll make this for my husband. He just love shrimp but not okra. lol! Let’s just see if he can resist this even if it have okra with it. 🙂
Favorite appitizer: Stuffed artichoke from Carmine’s Italian Restaurant. They are the absolute best stuffed artichoke that you will ever have. I had the pleasue of enjoying one the other day. We went to Carmine’s in Atlantic City and it was devine!!! Usually if we take a ride to Atlantic City for the day, I will order an artichoke to take home.!
This looks delish. From pictures you really have no idea what it is but then when you mention shrimp, okra and bagniets… oh I am so sold. I am in SC right now but in Hilton Head… I wonder if we can stop in Charleston for lunch when we head back north…
