Color My Powder Room – Part 1

Recently, Glidden paint invited me to check out their color selection website, MyColortopia.com. Anyone who knows me knows I’m a painting fool. My husband, Randy, teases me about the last house we lived in. He says I painted it so many times we lost interior square footage. A woman has the prerogative to change her mind, doesn’t she? And when paint is involved it’s an easy change.
We’ve been in our current home now for almost 6 years and I’ve been somewhat self-controlled with the painting. I played it safe and chose neutrals I could live with for a while. We’re just now getting around to doing some repainting. One room I’ve never paid a lot of attention to in regards to decorating happens to be the smallest but most well-used in our home: the powder room.
Here it is:
See what I mean? It’s small. And blah. It’s not that I haven’t thought about it. I have. I walk into the windowless, closet-sized space, stare for a while, then walk away without any idea of what to do. It needs something. I just haven’t been sure what that something was.
This invitation from Glidden paint has now spurred me to take the time to put some thought into it. My goal is to choose a space to paint, select paint color(s) utilizing the MyColortopia.com tools, then paint the space. I’ve begun the process by finding images that are appealing to me for the direction I’d like to take. Some are color palettes that I like, while others are actual powder rooms that caught my eye. Here are just a few of the favorites I’ve found on Pinterest:
What do you think? Have any ideas to share?
Usually I tend to gravitate to clean and simple spaces. Plus, with this room being so small and without a window, I don’t want it to feel like a cave. Most of what I’ve been drawn to are fairly light colors, but I do like the dramatic navy blue combined with the white wainscoting. I’m also still trying to decide if I’ll use one color or add a second color with an accent wall. Maybe a stenciled accent wall? Plus, my husband is toying with the idea of adding wainscoting to the room.
Basically, right now I’m kind of all over the place. Thank goodness I can experiment with the handy color tools from MyColortopia.com. I’ve been playing with the Color My Room tool to help find the perfect color(s) for our tiny space.
Have you seen it yet? It’s such an easy tool to use to help those of use that are visual have a closer idea of what a room will look like. Using Color My Room, you can choose colors to try, upload your own photo (or use an existing photo from the gallery), then virtually prep and paint the room to get a good idea of what the room will look like with that color. Pretty cool. Pretty fun. Pretty easy. Check it out!
I can’t wait to share the results of my powder room makeover with you real soon. And, again, if you have any ideas to share, (links to photos are great!) please do so below. I’d love to hear your input.

My last home decor project was inspired by what two little (6 and 4) boys would find fun and spark their creativity- I redid their bedroom and wanted it to be special. We painted two walls with neon glow in the dark paint and two with chalkboard paint and they chose a lot of the other decorating themselves. It was a lot of fun 🙂
my favorite color, blue-green, inspired redecorating the guest room.
we recently painted our kitchen cabinets!
A new piece of furniture inspired my latest decor project.
Being an avid backpacker, the colors of the woods inspire me.
Ours is easier because we have a Victorian. We saw a similar house with warmer less ‘museum-esque’ colors and copied accordingly.

i love brown and tan in a living room it makes it feel warm and homely
repainted the bath with a lighter color to brighten it up
I’d favor a light color for the powder room because of the size. As for our most recent project, our master bedroom, our inspiration was drapes in soft teal.
My children help inspire me with their hobby choices.
My last project was painting my son’s bedroom orange with stripes because that is his favorite color.
My husband inspired me because he is always looking for new makeover ideas~~ email@example.com
my last project was inspired by my sons love for the boston red sox
The hole in the wall in our small bathroom inspired it to get a bit of remodeling. Now it has a brass plate instead of a hole where the door knob had crashed into it.
Inspired by my wife
My son inspired my last project.
For me it was a ratting chair I found at a garage sale. I painted it blue and found a great piece of material to redo the seat. Then I had to finish the dining area to match my awesome chair!
