Color My Powder Room – Part 1

Recently, Glidden paint invited me to check out their color selection website, MyColortopia.com. Anyone who knows me knows I’m a painting fool. My husband, Randy, teases me about the last house we lived in. He says I painted it so many times we lost interior square footage. A woman has the prerogative to change her mind, doesn’t she? And when paint is involved it’s an easy change.
We’ve been in our current home now for almost 6 years and I’ve been somewhat self-controlled with the painting. I played it safe and chose neutrals I could live with for a while. We’re just now getting around to doing some repainting. One room I’ve never paid a lot of attention to in regards to decorating happens to be the smallest but most well-used in our home: the powder room.
Here it is:
See what I mean? It’s small. And blah. It’s not that I haven’t thought about it. I have. I walk into the windowless, closet-sized space, stare for a while, then walk away without any idea of what to do. It needs something. I just haven’t been sure what that something was.
This invitation from Glidden paint has now spurred me to take the time to put some thought into it. My goal is to choose a space to paint, select paint color(s) utilizing the MyColortopia.com tools, then paint the space. I’ve begun the process by finding images that are appealing to me for the direction I’d like to take. Some are color palettes that I like, while others are actual powder rooms that caught my eye. Here are just a few of the favorites I’ve found on Pinterest:
What do you think? Have any ideas to share?
Usually I tend to gravitate to clean and simple spaces. Plus, with this room being so small and without a window, I don’t want it to feel like a cave. Most of what I’ve been drawn to are fairly light colors, but I do like the dramatic navy blue combined with the white wainscoting. I’m also still trying to decide if I’ll use one color or add a second color with an accent wall. Maybe a stenciled accent wall? Plus, my husband is toying with the idea of adding wainscoting to the room.
Basically, right now I’m kind of all over the place. Thank goodness I can experiment with the handy color tools from MyColortopia.com. I’ve been playing with the Color My Room tool to help find the perfect color(s) for our tiny space.
Have you seen it yet? It’s such an easy tool to use to help those of use that are visual have a closer idea of what a room will look like. Using Color My Room, you can choose colors to try, upload your own photo (or use an existing photo from the gallery), then virtually prep and paint the room to get a good idea of what the room will look like with that color. Pretty cool. Pretty fun. Pretty easy. Check it out!
I can’t wait to share the results of my powder room makeover with you real soon. And, again, if you have any ideas to share, (links to photos are great!) please do so below. I’d love to hear your input.

Our last (or current) home remodel project was born out of necessity after a tree fell on our master bedroom in June. We’re getting close to having the room back to “normal” and did upgrade the bathroom tile to a beautiful marble. We used a gray/army green palate as inspiration.
My last kitchen remodel inspiration actually came from a home improvement channel on TV lol!

Pinterest and Houzz since you can find some really neat decorating ideas on both sites.
My last project was taking down wall paper and painting
A home decorating board showed me the kitchen I had always wanted. Painting was the only cost I could afford at the time. The shelving came in the form of a gift card for my anniversary. Great way to start the kitchen remodeling.
I was inspired by a painting I saw which prompted me to choose deep browns to decorate my bedroom.
i get inspiration from watching some of the shows on HGTV or DIY
My last DIY was painting my hall walls. I need to do my dining area now.
