As adults, from time to time, we find that we’ve lost our sense of wonder, the capacity to experience life, to really absorb what’s going on around us. We become overwhelmed by an onslaught of responsibilities, expectations, and well … just stuff.

I’m reminded of a line from Captain Barbossa in one our family’s favorite movies, The Pirates of the Caribbean:

… For too long I’ve been parched of thirst and unable to quench it. Too long I’ve been starving to death and haven’t died. I feel nothing. Not the wind on my face nor the spray of the sea. …

Captain Barbossa was cursed in a bad way. I’m just buried under laundry.

A couple of weeks ago I visited my friend Ree, The Pioneer Woman, at her family’s ranch in Oklahoma. I feel so blessed to have had such a wonderful time away from the norm. I can’t quite find the words to describe the time spent cooking, laughing, and playing with so many sweet ladies.

But I can tell ya that I did feel the wind in my face.

Here are some of my memories from that moment in time, followed by a few links to posts from other ladies that were there too. Be sure to check out their lovely words and pictures as well.

We had such a great time eating, singing, riding in the back of pickup trucks, laughing, and eating some more. I really encourage you to make some time to feel the wind in your face. It does a wonder of good.

Visit my fellow weekend cowgirls to see what they’ve shared from the weekend…
