Getting Refreshed with Family Time

Cookouts, fireworks, dirty feet, summer camp, fireflies, giggling cousins, and lots of sunscreen means summer is here.

It’s a busy time full of fun, but boy does it fly by. Summer for us is a time for getting refreshed, re-energized, and recharged, but that can easily get lost in the hectic schedules we allow to bog us down.

So with our children already in high school (whoa), we’re trying to be very intentional about carving out time for our family to spend quality down time together before school starts in the fall. And what better way to refresh than to get away from the laundry, yard work, and other daily routines with a family vacation full of fun.

Of course in addition to all the fun activities a vacation offers, favorite summer foods are a big part of our family vacations and downtime. Homemade ice cream, juicy watermelon, or a crisp cool drink can’t be beat, especially during the heat. An all-time favorite for me has been ginger ale.

From a young age I remember coming in from a fun day at the beach to find a cool, sparkly glass of ginger ale waiting for me. Its refreshing crispness hit the spot like no other — the perfect way to cap off a wonderful day and cool off.

To this day, no other drink says “happy” or “comfort” for me like ginger ale does.

I get on a plane headed for a special destination, I order ginger ale. Out for a special dinner with my family, I order ginger ale. It’s a happy drink for sure. And refreshing? Definitely.

So when I heard about Seagram’s Ginger Ale’s new “It’s Good To Be You” campaign and Facebook app, I was certainly interested in seeing what it was all about. Creating special moments with family on vacation or celebrating life with your favorite people are absolutely those times when “It’s Good To Be You.”

The GTBU Facebook app is a fun way to stamp Facebook photos you find that deserve the “Good To Be You” approval. Whether it ís a major milestone or a moment to remember, you can stamp and share the photo and remind your friends or family just how good they have it. It’s kind of like a virtual high five of sorts. Be sure to check it out and share with friends. It’ll be a fun way to celebrate those special events online.

Also, be on the lookout for Seagram’s new line of sparkling seltzer waters. I think I’ll be stocking up on these for summer parties and trips to the pool.

They come in a variety of flavors: original, key lime, blackberry raspberry, white peach and orange citrus. I think these will be a big hit with my girlfriends for a clean, crisp, refreshment to cool things off this summer.

I’d love to hear how you’re going to get refreshed this summer. What plans do you have? A special trip? A grand event? A personal goal met? Do share.

And remember, time will flee if you don’t grab it now. Happy summer!

I’m relaxing at the OBX now, but after seeing the gorgeous shore photo above, I’d rather be there! What coastline is that? Nothing prettier than a white beach and teal water…takes me away like nothing else.

I am loving this article. It’s full of life. I usually like to spend my summer with my family going on picnics. It’s just fun laying on the sun and sharing good foods to eat. And I am loving that phrase “it is good to be you”.

What a lovely post, Amy and fantastic pictures of your giggling kids. I drink glass upon glass of seltzer water, with a squeeze of lime, everyday. It’s the easiest, tastiest way to keep myself hydrated. I’ll be looking for these Seagram’s seltzer waters.

Your photos make me want to get to the beach and have some ginger ale! I do believe the hay fields will prevail though.

Ginger produces a hot, fragrant kitchen spice.[5] Young ginger rhizomes are juicy and fleshy with a very mild taste. They are often pickled in vinegar or sherry as a snack or just cooked as an ingredient in many dishes. They can also be steeped in boiling water to make ginger tea, to which honey is often added; sliced orange or lemon fruit may also be added. Ginger can also be made into candy, or ginger wine which has been made commercially since 1740.*

    All the best to you
