Vintage Ornaments

While many of our boxes of Christmas decorations headed back to the attic unopened this year, these vintage ornaments were one of the first things I snagged.
Old glass ornaments are a favorite of mine. Over the years we’ve been privileged to inherit many from family members. Last year I was excited to receive a box of ornaments from my husbands grandmother that had recently passed away. Each ornament shows a different mini scene.
I just adore them. Lovely patina. So whimsical.
A little glitter and old pipe cleaners add that special touch.
I can just imagine my mother-in-law and her brother sitting around their family tree as little ones watching the glimmer from these ornaments. So I decided to display them in a special way. A branch from a tree, spray painted ever so slightly with white paint is now the perfect home to showcase these family treasures. (For those interested in trying this at home, the branch is stuck in styrofoam that is secured in a planter. The styrofoam is concealed with other small Christmas ornaments, but moss or fabric would work great too.)
It’s always fun to add something new to the regular Christmas decor.
So what have you done differently this year with your decorations? Any fun new ideas you can share with the rest of us?
Congratulations to the winner.
Those ornaments are absolutely gorgeous!
I love these!
There’s just something about vintage ornaments that I find intriguing too. These are just lovely…….. and fun!
I have a 4 ft. black Christmas tree that I did as an Appalachian tree all in black and gold. It is just outside of our small office that is also decorated with App stuff.
I have a bunch of Swarovski crystal ornaments that would probably look great on the tree branch like yours. I may have to steal your idea for next year! Thanks for sharing!
I better not let Randy hear about that tree or we’ll have to set one up too. Although he’s a NC State fan as well – maybe a 1/2 and 1/2 tree?

I love those. That they’re meaningful for your family makes them all the more special.

Oh my I just love those ornaments!!
I haven’t even gotten Christmas up yet! This weekend. I can’t believe its only 2 weeks away. I gt so caught up with the wedding I’m totally running behind!
And they almost got trashed! Thanks Amy for rescuing Mama’s ornaments. They are beautiful. How about a picture of the whole tree?!
Love you,
J
I love those ornaments! I have a 5 ft. white feather tree…and I use all vintage ornaments handed down from my family and ones I purchased in antique shops. I didn’t put it up this year…the cats attacked it a few years ago…I couldn’t stand to take the chance again this year.
BTW..I just found your site and I love it…thanks to Pioneer Woman. I desperately want to go to The Grove Park Inn!!!!!
Happy New Year
Wow! Such Amazing ornaments & the pictures are great! I Love the Shiny Brites, even the good clear style. Wonderful to hear the history as well. An interesting tidbit about the UFO ornaments.
