Phyllo Baked Brie with Fig Preserves and Toasted Walnuts is such a pretty and totally delicious appetizer for any occasion. Although this appetizer may look fancy, it couldn’t be easier to make.
Preparing for a party? Although this baked brie appetizer may look involved this recipe is really very easy and pretty quick for such an elegant presentation. Just imaging cutting into a warm package made of crispy Phyllo dough that holds melty, buttery Brie, fig preserves, and toasted walnuts. You’ll find it hard to resist. It’s such a beautiful, elegant dish, but oh so very easy.
If you’ve never worked with Phyllo dough before, don’t let it intimidate you. It’s easy to work with, and kind of fun too! And Phyllo is so forgiving. It always turns out gorgeous! Especially when brushed lightly with melted butter before baking. Phyllo really makes a pretty package, doesn’t it?
Remember this one for the holiday season. This appetizer would make a terrific addition to any holiday spread, or a wine and cheese party for the New Year’s celebrations. Of course, I could enjoy this baked brie any time of the year. No special excuses needed.
A few baked brie recipe notes:
- Brie is encased in an edible rind. If you don’t care for the rind, it may be cut off. It’s kind of a pain, but it can be done.
- When working with the Phyllo dough, make sure to keep it covered with a plastic wrap and/or a damp paper towel. It tends to dry out very quickly. Don’t worry if it tears. It happens, and it will never be noticed. You can see from the picture above how messy and wrinkly my Phyllo sheets were before closing everything up. It’s very forgiving, and like I said, fun too!
- Any fruit preserve may be substitute for the fig preserves. Use the same amount.
- Toasted walnuts add a great texture and round out the flavors of this recipe. Toasting nuts is quick and easy to do, and they can be toasted ahead of time too. If nut allergies are a concern, delete them altogether.
