Honeycrisp

Fall is apple time. Prime time for fresh apple pie, apple cobbler, apple dumplings, apple sauce, or maybe just the simpleness of a crisp apple cut up and eaten alone. So last week when I was dashing through the grocery store and saw my favorite apple, the honeycrisp, on the end cap, I quickly snagged a bunch. They go quickly around here.
Honeycrisps are a popular snack apple. Crisp and sweet, they certainly live up to their name. I just read that in 2006 the Andersen Elementary school in Bayport, Minnesota petitioned the state legislature there to claim the honeycrisp as their state fruit.
Smart kids.
So be sure to keep your eyes peeled for these beauties next time you’re at the grocery store, and let me know what you think. I’d be surprised if they wouldn’t become one of your favorites too.
Tell me, what’s your favorite apple variety? Or favorite apple recipe?
Have an apple of a day!
Nice post Amy!
I love honey crisps too. But since that is a relatively new variety I’m still partial to the fuji and gala, any one of those are typically in my home. As for favorite apple recipe, it’s a tie between homemade applesauce (chunky with no added sugar or sweetener) and old fashioned apple pie. I have even perfected the flaky crust with gluten free flour! I love to cook and I love fall because it is apple season!
I am always torn between Honeycrisp and Fuji… love them both!!
Definitely honeycrisp!
Nothing beats a granny smith – my all time favorite!
Honeycrisp are always a favorite at our house!
I love Fujis! and sometimes gala too!
Honey Crisp for sure 🙂
When we moved to Washington state we found Honeycrisps. I’ve always loved apples, but these are like nothing I’ve ever tasted! They are so delicious fresh or baked. My guy LOVES apple pies, so we always buy plenty extra to make him one (or two!)
We are gala eaters but sometimes I buy granny smith just for me. They usually don’t make it more than a couple of days before the kids steal them. I did see honeycrisp at the store yesterday and they were enormous!
Gravenstein! I just love them…
I really love Fuji apples – they’re so crisp and sweet!
Oh, I’m with you…I love, love, LOVE the Honeycrisp!
We love Honeycrisp and Fuji. My mom’s apple cake with Caramel frosting is one of my favorite apple dishes.
Honeycrisp is our favorite variety!
I love fuji, gala, golden delicious, and honeycrisp. We don’t often buy honeycrisp though because they never seem to be on sale. I like anything that is crisp and sweet.
My favorite apple recipe is probably apple crisp. Just made one last weekend for my in-laws and it was delicious!
Gala for eating out of hand, Granny Smith for stewed apples. I’m certainly interested in trying Honeycrisp, but usually go for the less expensive varieties (keeping a sharp eye for Honeycrisp sale)!
Funny, this is the exact sort of apple that I bought at the market yesterday. I usually buy Granny Smiths- I like the tartness. These just happened to be staring at me all pretty and rosy, so they made their way into my basket instead. Then I took a peek at the price– they were the most expensive of the apples! I love to dunk them in PB.
Granny smith in an apple crumble is pure bliss!
Love all kinds of apples, but these are definitely favorites. Just pure deliciousness!
Love these photographs.
