A different kind of dream vacation.
At this time of year the mind invariably starts to wander off to somewhere remote, somewhere to rest the mind, a place to block out the swirling of the world, a place to take a break, a vacation, a holiday – whatever you want to call it – to grab some peace and serenity, if only for a few moments.
Our summer break is quite a puzzle of a schedule with a family vacation squished in between camps and other activities. It’s difficult to not dream of exotic places while we wait to vacate. Our little kiddy pool will have to do for the time being.
With a little imagination, just the right music, and a cold drink, I can dunk my feet in, close my eyes, and drift off for a mini vacation. Maybe to French Polynesia? Or the Amalfi Coast? Just keep my eyes closed and I can dream for a while right? Maybe for a little while, even if for a fleeting moment.
So, tell me, where do you long for when you close your eyes? A faraway place with warm blue waters? Snow capped peaks? Wherever it is, I wanna hear. Do share.
Just a beach somewhere, anywhere. It soothes my soul.
the most wonderful vacation spot in the world i’m convinced is Tortola in the British Virgin Islands…blue water, blue skies, white beaches, and drinks all around! i would love love love to live there some day 🙂
Kauai. Then Italy, but not this time of year. Italy in the fall. (Big smile)
Bora Bora or the Seychelles have been my dream vacations for a while. However I can’t complain about getting to go to the Grand Caymans in just over a month.
I have the worst wanderlust, Amy. My wishlist is long. It’s to the point that I can’t even stand it, and yet, a vacation is so far from being possible anytime in the near future. Excuse me. I have to go fill my pool.
The Mediterranean, anywhere really. Spain, France, Italy, Greece, I’m not picky :- )
A beach………I haven’t gone and just relaxed on a beach in forever!…………dream would be somewhere all inclusive!
It’s always the beach for me… just to hear the sounds of the waves and giggles from my children (or not,…because going without them would be grand as well!)
I have always wanted to go to Turks and Caicos…
still don’t have that trip planned, so I guess I’ll have to settle for the Jersey Shore 😉
I venture off to Jost Van Dyke in the BVI’s… The waters there are amazing and it’s so quiet and peaceful there.
anywhere there’s water, sun and the prof
I dream of the Hershey’s Spa. 😉
Ah… I would love that fleeting moment of vacation bliss too… can my toes join yours in that water?? 🙂
I always dream of returning to Ireland. Maybe one day, but right now we’re planning at trip to Scotland for next year. Yes, it’s the cooler climes for me since my very fair skin and the sun at the beach don’t get along so well 🙂
I was doing that very same thing yesterday! A little baby pool escape in your back yard can do wonders!!
Up until this past week, I probably would have said “A cruise ship – to anywhere”. But we just got back from Key West. And that’s it for me. Key West will forevermore be my “Happy Place”. You MUST go!
Isn’t Key West WONDERFUL? I lived there for a number of years but had to come back to St Petersburg to take care of my Mom.
I will say that the beaches here are better than KW but the atmosphere is so much better in Key West. When the time comes I will be heading back to my little island.
I long for white sandy beaches and gorgeous emerald green waters!
Love that last shot of the pool. It makes something that is so commonplace look quite exciting and romantic—perhaps the way really young kids would see it.
My dream vacation would be touring the Lake District in England.
Maldives…
For me, the ocean is truly home…just don’t get to go home nearly enough. : )
I do the very same thing – a cool drink and my feet in the kiddie pool does wonders! But when I dream, it usually has water involved. Doesn’t much matter – Mediterranean, Caribbean, or a lake in northern Minnesota – it all sounds wonderful.
My mind usually wanders back to our vacation in Hanalei Bay on the island of Kauai (Hawaii) or our trip to Glacier National Park and the Canadian Rockies. I love a good beach, but I’m usually a mountain kind of girl. My beloved, The Complete Package, is dreaming of visiting Istanbul. It’s part of his bucket list. Thailand sound appealing, too. Ah, heck…I’ll go anywhere! I love to travel.
FOr starters, I’d like to be in the picture above! I dream for the beach with crystal blue water in the Caribbean or a boat dock in Northern Wisconsin. Perfect weather included of course, we re dreaming right?
Hand down Bora Bora is my dream vacay….its so expensive, its almost wrong for something to cost that much! Maybe I should call it my fantasy trip instead!
Seychelles, New Zealand, Machu Picchu, Milan…anywhere that isn’t here. 🙂
Southern Thailand – my favorite place in the world!
Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Just thinking about it existing so far away from me makes me a little sick inside. The high peaks of the Grand Tetons and the cold green-blue water of the deep Snake River….sometimes I think it must have been created just for me.
Hmmm… dream vacation? It would have to involve Europe. Traveling to new places, preferably a tad on the exotic side would be divine. Maybe Spain, Greece or Italy?
I really want to go to Belize some day. I’ve heard wonderful things about it. I would like to head there with my family tomorrow! But I have a feeling it’s better to plan these things out a little bit. Thanks for the quick reminder drift off to my own mini-vacation!
I would love to go to Australia!
I’m a traveler at heart, but since we’re waiting on my Residency visa, I can’t leave the country this year!
That said, Australia isn’t too bad a place to be “stuck” 🙂 Hamilton Island, in the Great Barrier Reef, is my ultimate destination right now. It’s only a few hour flight from here (Melbourne), but right now in the dead of winter it feels like a zillion miles away!
kiribati. An beautifully scenic island in the south pacific where the main sources of revenue are coconut harvesting and fishing. Sounds like a GREAT place to stay for a few weeks(or months) and just lay back, enjoy the simplicity, the sun, and the beauty.
