Sherbet, especially lime sherbet, has always been one of my favorites. It reminds me of going to my Nana and Granddaddy’s. It’s a refreshing and sweet treat, perfect for summertime. They always had a freezer full of sherbet flavors, but I always went for the lime.
Lime is yum.
And even mo’ bettah, it’s quick and easy. All you need is half and half, sugar and limes. Three ingredients, that’s all. Doesn’t get much easier than that.
Of course you’ll need an ice cream maker. We own both an ice it down, add salt kinda churn, as well as a small, indoor, counter top version. For small batches the small, counter top version is perfect. Our Cuisinart Ice Cream/Yogurt/Sorbet Maker works like a charm.
Let’s get this party started. Zest and juice the lime(s).
Combine zest and juice with the half and half, and sugar.
Pour it all in the ice cream maker and freeze according to preferred ice cream maker directions.
When frozen thick, serve right away or transfer to plastic container, and place in freezer until ready to serve. It’s as simple as that. Frozen yummy goodness!
What’s your favorite frozen dessert? Sorbet? Sherbet? Frozen yogurt? Ice cream? And what flavor can you not resist?

YUM! I have never tried making sherbet…but this is definately happening TONIGHT! Thank you for sharing!
It’s recipes like this that make me realize I NEED an ice cream maker!! 😉
Just made old fashioned vanilla ice cream in the same maker. Now to try your lime sherbet. I always wondered why everyone says sherbert when it’s sherbet.
I make both watermelon and cantaloupe ice cream.. and both are soooo delicious, it is hard to get enough. MMMM.
We make ice cream and absolutely love it. We have one of those big hand crank type ice cream maker that makes lots, but it is messy and too much work. My sister loaned me a small Cuisinart ice cream maker that is a cinch to use. The only problem is how little it makes. We have six in our family and a live in farm intern. I have learned to double the recipe and use both freezer canisters that come with it. Last summer I got hooked on Roasted Banana and Maple Ice Cream. I also came up with a fresh peach and coconut ice cream that was seriously delish! My true weakness in life is ice cream! I look forward to trying your sherbert.
Love it. Love it all. My hubby will be so happy I found you and your blog.

What’s the difference between sorbet and sherbet?? This sounds so delicious. 😀

I have never made icecream. Lime is my FAVORITE! This would be super this summer! Thanks!
I love lime sherbet! It’s SO good, especially when you make a float with the sherbet and lemon-lime soda.
Our church had a cookout and there were ten different kinds of homemade ice cream and I tasted everyone. Yum-Yum. They were all good but my favorite was the Reeses’ Pieces one. Next favorite was the Banana Pudding one. Needless to say it would be dangerous for me to make ice cream at home as I would eat it all at one sitting.
YUM! I looove lime. This looks amazing. I really need to invest in an ice cream maker. I think it’ll payoff pretty quickly!
I’ve never made sherbet before but it’s a perfect summer treat that feels a tad bit healthier than ice cream so I’m all for it (although I’m all for ice cream too). I’ll definitely try this one out! The citrus sounds delicious!
Oh that would have hit the spot this week. It has been unbearably hot this week. Beautiful Sherbert!!
Just got an ice cream maker last week. I will definitely be trying this one!
OH MY!!!
My son and his finacee are having a jack and Jill shower this Saturday and the theme is food…I think I know what I will get them :-)..and attach this recipe 🙂
This sounds yummy..wonder if there is a two-fer coupon for icecream makers anywhere ?? LOL
Just made this. If you crumble in graham crackers or ginger crackers while it’s mixing, you end up with something remarkable similar to Ciao Bella’s lime graham cracker gelato.
It’s delicious!
Love ice cream of most any kind. Bruster’s Key Lime Pie is one of my favorites. Yummo!
Man that looks good! Sometimes the most simple recipes are the best!
