Free Quote Printables – Hush It

As we approach the new year, we think about goals and about what we’d like to do differently. Here’s a simple one: be nice. There’s enough snarky sarcastic critical tones, rude uncalled for behavior and hatefulness already floating around in the world. We don’t need to add more. There’s more than plenty of that junk out there. Instead we can try to balance that with what we say, or better yet, what we don’t say. Like our mamas used to say, “If you don’t have something nice to say, don’t say anything at all.”
Just because we think it, just because we may be right, just because we feel justified, that doesn’t mean we need to say it. Before letting the words leave our mouths, or the letters leaving our fingertips and hitting that “submit” button, we need to stop and think, then ask ourselves a few questions:
Is this nice?
Is this encouraging?
Is this respectful?
Is this constructive? Is there any way this will produce positive results?
Is this coming from a place of love, or do I just want to be right?
Would I want someone to say this to me?
Do I have better things to do with my time and energy right now?
Just a few things to consider before letting the words flow.

I love it! Reminds me of the time Jacob wasn’t quite two when he told his sister and cousin to “shut up”. We corrected him. Then we heard him say, “You be hushing down now.” 😉
Oh my goodness. I love this soooo much!!! I need it in every single room of my house!!!
Wise words Amy. I had to “hush it” a couple times over the holidays and it was the best decision possible. 😉
Love this. My grandma always said this very thing and “Don’t be ugly”, meaning don’t be mean. Your printables are the best. Happy New Year!
Great post! My saying to my kids was always, “Life’s hard, be kind.” Thanks for the reminder.
Love this Amy! (And need it too 🙂 )
My husband’s Grandmother used to say, “Don’t be rough and rowdy, be refined and nice!” Thanks for the reminder Amy.
Hello Karla,
I like that! Thank you for sharing it. 🙂
