If you’re on the hunt for a new TV series to enjoy on demand, we’ve collected a selection of our favorites and will continue to add to the list as we think of others.
With our schedules we’ve found that we don’t have regular times for watching TV so being able to pull up a series and watch from the very beginning at our own pace, usually without commercials with online services has been fabulous. You’ll find many of the series below available on Netflix, iTunes, HuluPlus or similar services.
Following each recommendation you’ll see the TV rating and where it can be found for viewing on demand. This list will be updated as often as possible with new recommendations and information so be sure to check back. And please let me know if you find any discrepancies.
Favorite TV Series’:
(in no particular order)
Psych: In the narrow genre of murder mystery comedy, you’ll find this family favorite, Psych. It centers around young Santa Barbara police consultant Shawn Spencer, and his sidekick Gus, who makes his living pretending to be a psychic detective. Psych is well written with a great cast and it doesn’t take itself too seriously. It’s fantastic lighthearted fun.

Sherlock: Yeah, THAT British mystery show. Sherlock is the BBC’s modern representation of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes. And boy, this show is really good. If you watch it (and I sincerely recommend that you do) prepare to block out a few hours of your life to enjoy Benedict Cumberbatch, as you laugh, cry and throw things across the room because of Steven Moffat and his cliffhangers. So when you’ve finished season 3, let me know so we can wallow in the angst that 4 isn’t coming until 2016 together. Until then, happy sleuthing!
TV-14 Find on: Netflix, iTunes
The Blacklist: My current favorite! A FBI crime drama centered around capturing an eccentric list of criminals. New FBI profiler, Elizabeth Keen works alongside the mysterious and affable Raymond “Red” Reddington, a former government agent turned fugitive who is on the FBI’s most-wanted list. James Spader’s performance in this series is exceptional. Whether you’re a fan of Spader or not, I think you’ll be impressed with this show.
TV-14 Find on: NBC, Netflix, Hulu, iTunes
White Collar: A crime drama centered around FBI agent Peter Burke and his handsome and clever confidential informant, Neil Caffrey. Together they catch the biggest art, jewelry and financial thieves in New York.
TV-PG Find on: USA Network, Netflix, iTunes
The Middle: A sitcom centered around the Heck family, a quirky family living in Indiana. This comedy is full of everyday struggles and their ongoing antics. Charming and funny!
TV-PG Find on: ABC, Netflix, Hulu, iTunes
Top Gear (the BBC/UK version): Top Gear is a lot more than the name implies. It’s adventure travel, clever unscripted comedy, racing celebrities, current events, and really cool cars. It is thoroughly entertaining
TV-PG Find on: Netflix, HuluPlus, iTunes
Royal Pains: A medical drama/comedy set in the Hamptons about a concierge medical service and the crazy things they encounter. Royal pains is a fun loving adventurous show with characters you wanna be friends with and medical terms you wish you could pronounce.
TV-PG Find on: USA Network, Netflix, iTunes
When Calls the Heart: After having a few people recommend this show, I finally got around to watching it while recovering from the crud one week. A young school teacher moves west to teach in a small coal mining town. It reminds me so much of the Little House on the Prairie TV series. And it should! Michael Landon’s son, Michael Landon, Jr. is the creator of the show. It’s a nice family feel-good show.
TV-PG Find on: Hallmark Channel, Super Channel, Netflix, iTunes
The Alps From Above: If you want to de-stress while you are entertained, try Alps From Above. It features gorgeous motion aerial photography from all across the Alps and interviews with happy Alpine people.
TV-G Find on: HuluPlus
Seinfeld: If we’re talking favorite TV series, you can’t forget about Seinfeld. One of the best sitcoms of all time is just as funny today. A cast of unforgettable characters share every day situations while living in the Big Apple.
TV-PG Find on: Crackle
Almost Royal: As you might have noticed, we’re quite partial to British “tele”. And the newest faux reality show from BBC America has got me rolling on the ground. It features Georgie and Poppy Carlton as distant heirs to the throne doing an informal tour of working America. The leads, Gamble and Hogartt, both have an extreme talent for tone and expression, making the show believable, ridiculous and utterly hilarious. Tune in to the B sometime, it might make you P.
TV-PG Find on: iTunes
New Girl: The absolute perfect 22 minute fix for your belly ache laugh comedy and crush worthy characters. Too many shows today try to be so intense or fulfill every niche for the high rated sitcom. New Girl is individual yet speaks to many, and if you’re not totally in love with Zooey Deschanel by the end of episode 1, I’ll delete my Netflix account. It’s perfect for just chilling before bed or for mending post breakup stress disorder. Give it a watch, you’ll laugh until you cry, we sure do.

Drop dead diva! Such a cute addicting show! !
Friday Night Lights!!!
We just started watching White Collar. Liking it so far! Friday Night Lights is the BEST show ever! We also like House of Cards!
Top Gear UK is the funniest show, in the world.
I’ve been enjoying The Following (w/ Kevin Bacon), though it’s pretty violent if you can handle that.
I’m a serious Sherlock addict. We now have a VPN so I can access BBC iPlayer to watch new episodes as soon as they become available in the UK. Moriarty!!!!!!! *shakes fist*
We’re also getting into Falling Skies. We’ve gotten the first two discs from Netflix, and it gets better and better as it goes along.
My husband and I just discovered Arrested Development. Belly laughs EVERY night! The first half of season 2 is my favorite so far. I hope they actually release a fifth season!
Sherlock. So. GOOD!
2016. UGH!!! WAAAAAH!!!!!
But seriously…so good. My jaw dropped to the floor so many times in season 3.
And we just discover New Girl this summer too. LOVE. Just…love.
