Can you believe the holidays are already upon us? Seriously, next week is November.
Why does time fly? Why?
Make it stop!
Anyway, since we can’t make it stop, we need to get on with the planning of things. As far as the gift-giving part goes, I’m going to try to share ideas over the next couple of weeks with you as I discover them myself. Please don’t hesitate to let me know about any you find as well. I’ll have my list ready.
For starters, this old post and step-by-step tutorial, Fancy Coloring Art Project, is a great way for kids to create a personal gift for parents or grandparents.
It doesn’t cost a lot of money, or take too much time either. It’s fun and simple. And, around here, fun and simple are always good in my book.

I hope you enjoy meeting Mary Helen, and again, if you have any gift ideas to share, please do!
What a sweet gift idea. I can’t believe that it’s nearly Nov. either, where’s “Freeze Frame” when you need it? 😉
I’m still trying to make it stop…guess I’d better give in, huh?
I absolutely adore this project, Amy! Wouldn’t it be fun for the kids to do one each year?!?
Such a fun idea. I know any mom would treasure a gift like that!
We did this the first time you posted it for Thanksgiving and Christmas pictures. Ethan loves to pull them out at the holidays.
What a fun idea Amy!!
This is perfect for us!!”
My parents and in-laws are always thrilled when they receive homemade gifts from my kids. I will definitely check out this project.
One of my sons drew me a picture of flowers in a vase so that I’d always have flowers (he was 5). I matted the picture & framed it & it now hangs beautifully in our dining room. I also did this with a pre-school project where they painted their hands 3 different colors & did a hand mural. That ONE is priceless as he is now 11! Time flies!
When all my nieces and nephews were little (or at least littler) I would give a family arts and crafts box for Christmas. I’d start during the back to school sale, and pick up all the stuff like glue and markers, and then I’d watch the sale at the craft stores for pom poms, googly eyes, pipe cleaners, etc. And then I’d try and throw in one make your own ornament project with the directions. It not only gave them one stress free family activity for the holidays, but it also gave them HOURS of enjoyment later on. Hours more than they would have gotten from a toy that cost the same price…
I totally agree with fun and simple, that’s what the holidays should be about.
I love your web. Its original and friendly. Stumbling upon this right now!
