Fall Exploring

Fall is beginning to show in all it’s glory all around here in the Carolinas and surrounding areas. We enjoy weekend day trips during this time of the year, scooting up to the mountains to drive the Blue Ridge Parkway or visit sleepy mountain towns. If you’re looking for a place to escape to for the day or the weekend in the next few weeks, I’ve compiled a list of posts previously featured here.

Fall colors are all a flame in Western North Carolina during October. Find a few links to places to view the foliage here: I fall for leaf colors.

Saluda, North Carolina is a favorite little town to mosey through just south of Asheville, NC. Check it out here: A Day Trip to Saluda, NC

Enjoy bike riding? Fall is a great time to ride this rail-to-trail, The Virginia Creeper Trail, just over the North Carolina border. It’s a great place to spend the day or weekend and enjoy the changing colors. Read more: The Virginia Creeper Trail

Small mountain towns are a great place to find unique gifts and treasures. Black Mountain, North Carolina is no exception. It would be a great place to begin (or end if you’re on the ball) that holiday shopping. Here’s the link: Out and About in Black Mountain, NC

I hope you take some time to get out and explore soon. Fall is a great time to enjoy the outdoors and venture out for the day.

And will you share any suggestions and links you have for places to go to explore and enjoy fall in the comments below? Please do.

Enjoy! And happy travels!

A roadside visit.

On the side of the road, under the shade of an old live oak tree in Hollywood, South Carolina, you may find Tobias. Tobias is a man of many talents and a wealth of life experiences. He came of age during the ’60′s in the Boston area. Later he lived for a time in a tree house in Nova Scotia, then moved to Key West continue reading …

English Country Dancing

Instead of a normal evening of firefly rustling, frog gigging, or sitting around eating bonbons, we headed out one night last week for some English Country Dancing. Our church gym was the place to be last Tuesday night, let me tell ya. A local dance group graciously offered to come teach a night of this old form of folk dancing.

We’re bombarded with negative messages everyday. Bailouts to bad weather. Hogzilla to swine flu. It’s good every now and then to take a respite from all of that. A couple of weeks ago, while visiting my in-laws in NC, we had the pleasure of attending a community pickin’. Not a pig pickin’. Or a nose pickin’. (We don’t do that around here.) But a pickin’ of continue reading …
