This Easy Grapefruit Slush Recipe is made with only three ingredients. It’s the perfect treat for a hot day and so simple to make.

As I write this it’s mid-June here in South Carolina. June has mistaken itself for July and has heated up. I don’t think June knows that the first official day of summer is still a week away. I’m hoping that July will surprise us and think it’s June. A girl can hope.

Enter the slushie, or slush, Slurpee, ICEE, Slush Puppy—whatever you call it, it enters now.

It was a hot muggy evening. Suppertime was nearing but my appetite was a bit suppressed by the heat. You know what I mean, too hot to eat. All I wanted was something cool and light.

Enter the grapefruit (as far as I know, we all call it a grapefruit). So now it enters.

There was one large Ruby Red grapefruit on the counter that I caught a whiff of every time I walked by. What a lovely fragrance! I do like some grapefruit. Funny how I ate grapefruit every once in a blue moon as I was growing up, but now, I crave often. Anyway, the perfect Ruby Red grapefruit was there waiting for a purpose. It’s time had come.

I had an “aha!” moment and commenced to section it, juice it, then blend it up with a bit of sugar and ice into a Grapefruit Slush. It was pretty and pink and oh so refreshing. It hit the spot! And it has hit the spot at least 3 more times since then. I’m actually slurping one right now (for inspiration) as I type. Well, in between typing. Slurping and typing at the same time is a challenge for me. Somehow I manage.

Three easy ingredients, a few minutes to section a grapefruit, a whirl in the blender and you’ll be slurping your homemade (and somewhat healthy) grapefruit slushie in no time. Enjoy!

A few Grapefruit Slush Recipe Notes:

  • Although I grew up learning how to eat grapefruit with a grapefruit spoon, an old grapefruit knife was passed along with some things from Randy’s grandparents. I have come to prefer a grapefruit knife over a spoon. It’s especially good for sectioning all sorts of citrus and makes the job quick, which means more slushies! Slushies all the time! Slushies for everyone!
  • Ruby Red Grapefruit is my favorite. It’s a bit sweeter than other grapefruit and is perfect for a slushie. Plus the color is so pretty! Unfortunately it isn’t always available year round. In the U.S., Ruby Red Grapefruit season is typically October/November-May/June, which is crazy as it’s one of the things I crave the most in the hot months of July, August and early September.
  • Just so you know, good fresh grapefruit will usually keep at room temperature about 5-6 days from purchase date, if refrigerated it can go up to 2 weeks. You can also freeze fresh grapefruit. To do so, peel the grapefruit, removing most of the pith, place in freezer bags, remove as much air as possible, and freeze for up to a month.
  • Any type of grapefruit may be used for this slushie. Adjust sweetness as needed.
  • A great blender makes slushie making fun and easy. You’ll get perfect slush consistency every time!
