Sharing 3 of my favorite drinkable beers.

I’d like to preface this by saying that in no way is the following information medical advice. Always seek professional medical advice from a real life doctor.

3 Favorite Beers

Last week Randy stopped by the grocery store (as he does so often for me–yes, I’m spoiled) to grab a few items. While there he was browsing the beer aisle when a nice lady approached him and asked him if he knew much about beer.

When Randy began to relay the story to me, I immediately thought what you may be thinking now, “What a pickup line.” But no, she was sincerely looking for assistance in beer selection. Her father, who was suffering from kidney stones, had been advised by his doctor to drink lots of beer to help somehow. Obviously whatever kind of kidney stones he was suffering from would respond well to drinking beer.

(Here’s where I repeat that information on this site is in no way shape or form medical advice. Always seek medical advice from a professional, real life doctor.)

This lady’s father did not care for beer, so she was looking for something that was “drinkable” for the non-beer fan kidney stone suffering patient. Thankfully for her, Randy is married to a “drinkable” beer fan. I do enjoy a good cold beer. I usually prefer it to wine. While Randy is partial to hoppy beers, apparently, as I’ve been told, I lean toward more of the “girly” beers, if any beer can qualify as “girly.” Thankfully Randy was well-prepared with “drinkable” (otherwise known as “girly”) beer recommendations for this lady in need. He shared with her 3 of my favorite beers. And now I’m going to share them with you.

Stella Artois

Aside from the fact that the name alone is pretty cool to say, and I always quietly scream to myself “Stella!” in homage to Streetcar when I order one. This beer is well balanced. It tastes like summer in a good kinda way.

Blue Moon

Out of the 3 beers I’m sharing, Blue Moon may be the heaviest of the trio. Still, it has a crisp, citrus flavor and compliments most foods. They have a nice seasonal Summer Honey Wheat that I enjoy too.

Abita Purple Haze (and their Strawberry Harvest)

My sister introduced this beer to me last fall and I’ve been enjoying it ever since. It’s a crisp refreshing, raspberry-flavored beer. So yeah, you manly men beer drinkers, go ahead and sigh, then move right along, this beer’s not for you. That’s okay. It leaves more for me. Abita also crafted a seasonal brew, Strawberry Harvest. I like it even better than the Purple Haze and hope they make it a regular in their lineup.

As I was writing this post I realize that all the beers are relatively easy to attach to a song or work of art—Stella! Blue Moon being the most obvious, the old standard (Billie Holiday’s version is quite nice), or if you’re into Bluegrass music, Blue Moon of Kentucky by Bill Monroe and the Bluegrass Boys. Of course, Purple Haze will conjure up Jimi Hendrix, or perhaps a little stretch for any Prince fan, because a purple haze would definitely follow a purple rain, right? So maybe instead of “girly,” these beers could be classified as “artsy.”

Well, there you have it. Three of my favorite drinkable, artsy beers.
