About 15 years ago my SAS, Carole was living in Germany with her husband who was stationed there for some time to drive tanks about the countryside. She and a few of her lady friends would go traipsing about eastern Europe, junkin’, shopping and generally wreaking havoc in their wake. No I’m just joking, they behaved…most of the time.
Anyway, they regularly crossed the border into Poland for a Polish Pottery run that of which I was thankfully a beneficiary. Polish Pottery was originally made long ago by farmers in rural Poland; hand painted with simple, primitive designs mostly dots replicating the eye of the peacock feather.
My sister gave me my first taste of the lovely handpainted pottery for my birthday one of those many years ago.
And not too soon later a baby gift for my first born, a tea set. Isn’t it cute!!!
Anyone want to come over and play? We can make scones and tea and I think I have some brie left over in the fridge. Any takers?
I digress…although tea sounds mighty fine right now…maybe later? My sister started my infatuation with Polish Pottery back then and I’ve continued to collect it throughout the years. The pottery has become quite popular since and hence the rise in costs (my sister and her friends used to get dishes in Poland for $2 and $3 a piece!), so my purchases are few and far between nowadays. But you can easily find it in most TJ Maxx and Marshall’s stores, as well as online. There’s a whole slew of different pieces – even Christmas ornaments.
I have a thing about bowls. Bowls are multifunctional. They hold things. Good things. You can never have too many bowls. Big bowls. Little bowls. Medium sized bowls. Bowls rock.

I have “Gone With the Wind” memorabilia that I began collecting as a teenager who had a crush on Rhett Butler(I have a life-size poster). I have music/jewelry boxes, china candlesticks (1 Rhett, 1 Scarlett),two other china Scarletts, a Madame Alexander Scarlett, lots of books about the movie, and a whole collection of dolls…Rhett, Scarlett,Melanie, Ashley, Mammy, and Bonnie. Will I add to my collection? I’ll think about that tomorrow…tomorrow is another day!

I love the tea set! I don’t really collect anything…but I’m starting to want funky kitchen stuff. Like I have a wood handle pig ice cream scoop. And I LOVE it. I do have some hand painted dishes that came from a small little town back where I’m from and those are my company plates. I really love them. Hmmm maybe I’ll post them sometime!
Oh let me count the collections. I love stuff as you well know. I could collect all china. I LOVE china. I do have two sets of Christmas china, Christmas North Pole village, Hershey Christmas ornaments(for my first child,Hershey), Precious Moments from the teenage years, Depression glass, and I am sure there are many others. One day my children will probably hate me because they will get stuck with it eventually. Stuff can be so much fun. I love your pottery. It looks great displayed.

So pretty! I’m only just now starting to collect dishes and so my collection is small, but growing more now thanks to blogging.
I collect way too many things. I collect head vases, unique plates/dishes, dolls, whimsical cocktail napkins (I’ve even framed a few.), and Gone With the Wind stuff. My problem is…I just like unusual stuff.
Love polish pottery! So pretty. I collect cats!
I collect lots of different things, but my two favorites are old table linens and silverplate. I have loads of silverplate serving pieces and flatware in beautiful old patterns that I mix up in place settings with pretty china and linens. Makes a lovely table.
I collect cow creamers. I started it 28 years ago on my honeymoon and just received a new one this week from my daughter. I have about 100 of them at least!
OMG I just had my bridal shower on Sunday and I got some of these pieces! I was so excited and I had never seen them before. What a coincidence that you put up this post!
